Do You Drain Your Inspiration Before Walking Away From Your Writing?

Listen to what an American Novelist, Henry Miller had to say;

“I don’t believe in draining the reservoir, do you see? I believe in getting up from the typewriter, away from it, while I still have things to say, ” – Hebry Miller.

Here’s when to stop writing;

Walk away in the middle of and interesting and inspirational sentencee, when you’re enjoying your writing and where you can be able to pick up the next time without scratching your head. Stop writing where you’ll be inspired to keep writing next time.

  1. Medically speaking, tiredness happens to everyone — it’s an expected feeling after certain activities or at the end of the day. Usually, you know why you’re tired, and a good night’s sleep solves the problem. Fatigue is a daily lack of energy; unusual or excessive whole-body tiredness not relieved by sleep.

    1. Boredom, mental fatigues and drained mental energy can also happen as result of overthinking and lack of it.

      I agree with you that sleep  helps, but the above mentioned issues are mental related issues and sleep alone cannot be effective without doing some exercise beforehand.

       Exercise  as well as being good for our physical health and it is also good for our mental health – as it gives us the ability to shift the stress from the mind to the body. After finishing exercise, the mind becomes calm. And it is during this time  that we can absorb information, analyse things better, be creative and can make better decisions. That is why we see people taking on short stroll in the middle of  thier writing to rejuvenate their thinking and energy. 

      Secondly, after exercise and during the night,  we can sleep better. However, without exercise,  our stressed and fatigued mind stops us from having a good night sleep to reenergise ourself fully.

          1. Thank you guys for the chance of learning from you.

            Althought irrelevant I might seem sometimes as I meander alot, I appreciate for your patience and for making sense of my points.

            The ideas of food and its relation with creativity and thinking, I learnt from a book titled, On Disciplining the Soul by Al-Ghazali.

            In the book, he gives also other advices on how we can achieve our objectives. In it, he recommends that we should do 4 things:

            Eat moderately
            Speak less
            Sleep less
            And tolerate more.

            By eating moderately, not only our thinking improves, but we become more energetic and compassionate

            By speaking less, we attract less enemies.

            By sleeping moderately or less, we will have more time to do things as we can wake up early.

            By tolerating more, we will have a chance to focus our objectives more as people can’t make us angry.

    This makes sense as in moderation every thing is good.

    I understand that we use moderation, when we are talking about food consumptions and obesity related issues. But eating too much also impairs our thoughts and our compasion as human being.

    For example, people are thought to perform better when they eat moderately and can also think better when they have less in their belly.

    However, if we talk about writting stuff, people write best in the middle of night, early in the morning and an hour before midday or lunchtime. And if you think about, these are the times when we have less in our tanks.

    As for compasion, when we eat moderately, we constantly feel hungry. So when we see starving people, we are more likely to help them as we know what hunger is – compared to others who do not do things moderately!

    Likewise, when we take on a too challenging task or try to do too much, we become inefficient. When we try to do little or choose to do only easy tasks, we become bored. We are at our best, when we choose to do challenging tasks.

    However, doing a challenging task, which is neither too challenging nor easy, becomes moderate.

    Therefore, doing everything moderately, but consistently, is good for us in the long run.

    Everything else make us feeling bored, fatigued, drain our energy, and ultimately lead us to physiological or psychological problems. People who are under pressure all the time create more problems than solutions as their ability to make rational decisions are compromised.

    Life is all about balance. And those who can balance their lives around family, work, community and having a time for improving their self ( socially, physically, and mental thoughts) are those who can claim happy in every aspects of their life.

    We have alot to do to improve ourselves and others, but we need to do them moderately and consistently.

    1. Thanks for taking your time to write this. You approached my post from a different perspective and the meaning is glowing. I love your illustration with food and in-depth explanation.
      Now that you have said it, I recall I wrote better when I had no food in my stomach, do you believe that? Like when I was doing serious fasting as well as early in the morning. I do!
      Not draining oneself of inspiration before leaving the word processor also have something to do with the moderation you talked about.
