The Key To A Healthy Body Is A Good Head – Somali Proverb

This proverb makes me think about my head😀 and how good it sits on my shoulders and how balanced and how beautiful.

Good Head = Healthy Body

What is a “good head”?

Does it have to do with wisdom? Good reasoning?, Good judgement? Discipline? Self-control?

What is a good head? says; be intelligent or shrewd; good sense, good judgement.

So if you have a good head sitting on your shoulders, you are intelligent, sensible, wise. You have good judgement, good reasoning and you have the key to a healthy body.

People with good reasoning are the people we look up to for solutions, insnt it? They are the problem solvers, counsellors, advisers, and so on. If you have this good head, you are your own adviser. Even when others make suggestions, you can use your good judgement to determine if you’re well guided.

I believe that every person who is not depending on others to do think and reason has good heads. The problem is how many of the good heads favour the body?

What is a healthy body?

World Health Organisation,

Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social wellness and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.

I used to think that a healthy body is a physically fit body or a strong body but how wrong I was.

A healthy body is more than a strong body and it’s not the one without disease either.

A healthy body is a “maintained” body. Do not be confused by this. To enjoy a healthy body, you must use your sensible head and take good care of your body.

If you are not doing any of these already, now is the right time to start.

Visit your doctor regularly, get enough sleep, stay away from contamination, Eat a balanced diet, get lots of exercise (as much as your body allows), avoid harmful life choices or habits, in addition to all these are those things your good head can think of as the right thing to do to maintain a healthy body.

The key to a healthy body is a good head

  1. This is a great reminder of us to always care for ourselves first before trying to help others. Just like in the flight safety manuals where they tell you to put on your own oxygen mask before helping others put theirs on. Thanks for this post!

    1. Thank you, Stuart. You made a great point here. Sometimes we forget ourselves because we need to help others. We must see our bodies as the vehicles that take us around life, a thing that can break down without constant checks and care.
